The potential for ‘found money’ can quickly shift focus from God to mammon. Examine your heart’s desires and motives with ruthless honesty.

   No one can serve two masters; you cannot serve God and money (Matthew 6:24). Cultivate a spirit of contentment, keeping your life free from the love of money (Hebrews 13:5). Prioritise heavenly treasures over earthly ones, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in and steal (Matthew 6:19-20). The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever (1 John 2:17).

While the dream of finding money on the ground may speak to earthly provision or unexpected blessings, its deepest spiritual resonance calls us higher. It beckons us to discern the true source of all good things and, more deep, the origin of our own inherent worth. For the believer, value is not merely unearthed or stumbled upon; it is divinely bestowed.

Our identity is not defined by what we acquire or possess, but by who we are in Christ. As Ephesians 2:10 beautifully declares, ‘For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.’ This divine craftsmanship inherently defines our irreplaceable value, marking us as masterpieces uniquely purposed by the Creator.

This understanding serves as a powerful bulwark against placing our security in transient earthly gains. Instead of clinging to what perishes, we are deeply called to ‘set our minds on things above, not on earthly things,’ as admonished in Colossians 3:1-2. Our true riches, therefore, are eternal and imperishable, an ‘inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade—kept in heaven for you’ (1 Peter 1:3-4).

The Lord Jesus Himself illustrated this divine valuation, reminding us in Luke 12:6-7, ‘Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.’ This shows a deep truth: our worth is eternally fixed by God’s gaze and boundless love, far surpassing any earthly finding.

Ultimately, this dream guides us to a deeper spiritual posture: recognising that no one can receive anything unless it has been ‘given them from heaven’ (John 3:27). Our value, our purpose, and our ultimate security are rooted not in earthly deposits, but in the eternal deposit of God’s love and grace within us. The true treasure is not the money found, but the divine Giver and the immutable worth He bestows upon us from above.
