MFM Devotional 7 March 2026 – Don’t Settle For Less

Biblical Context

The Apostle Paul wrote 1 Corinthians to the church in Corinth. Corinth was a big, busy city in the Roman Empire, known for its wealth, trade, and often very loose morals. Paul’s letters to these believers addressed many real problems they were facing: arguments among themselves, issues with sin, legal disputes, and confusion about spiritual gifts. In 1 Corinthians 2, Paul makes a strong point about God’s wisdom versus human wisdom. He argues that you won’t find God’s deepest truths through smart human thinking or fancy words. Instead, these truths come from the Holy Spirit, who reveals things that the world can’t grasp. Paul’s message helps us remember that what really matters often goes way beyond what we can see or imagine with just our own minds. He was trying to get the Corinthians to understand the true, incredible depth of God’s plans.

Let’s look at the word “prepared” in 1 Corinthians 2:9. The Greek word here is hetoimazō (pronounced het-oy-mad’-zo). It means “to make ready,” “to prepare,” or “to put in order.” This isn’t just a casual thought; it carries the idea of something being made ready with great care for a specific purpose or for a coming event. It’s an intentional act of getting things set. When the Bible says God has “prepared” things for you, it means He’s meticulously made them ready, arranged them, and designed them just for you. It’s a purposeful making ready, not a sudden, unplanned idea.

Don’t Settle For Less Than God’s Best

It’s honestly disheartening to see how many people settle for less than what God has truly intended for them. Maybe it’s because of fear, or they’re impatient, or they feel like they aren’t worth much, or even because of past disappointments. Whatever the reason, many people accept just ‘good enough’ in their relationships, their careers, how they grow spiritually, or even in finding their life’s purpose. But God’s Word is here to remind us that we are called to so much more. You, beloved, were created for greater things. You weren’t an accident or a product of chance. God made you on purpose, for a purpose. That’s the divine design; settling for less truly dishonors this grand design God has for you.

How do I know this? God told me Himself in Jeremiah 29:11, which says, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” God’s plans for your life are good, they are intentional, and they are filled with purpose. Settling for less than His best isn’t just missing out; it’s a quiet form of disobedience.

God Gives Abundance, Not Scarcity

God gives abundance, never scarcity. Jesus didn’t come so we could just manage life, just get by. He came to give us abundant life – spiritually, emotionally, and even materially – when we follow His will. John 10:10 says, “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” It’s not the will of God that His children should live in lack; He wants you to live in abundance.

Know Your True Worth

Many people settle for less because they don’t really see their true value. They forget that you are worth the blood of Jesus. Beloved, never forget your worth in Christ. Anyone or anything that tries to make you compromise your identity in Him must be ignored. What God has ready for you often goes way beyond what you have seen, experienced, or even imagined. Don’t settle for less than God’s absolute best.
