The Gospel of John, written by John, one of Jesus’ closest disciples, offers a unique and intimate look at the life, teachings, and purpose of Jesus Christ. Unlike the other Gospels, John focuses on telling us about Jesus’ divine nature, His relationship with the Father, and what it means to truly believe in Him. He wrote it so people would know who Jesus really is – God in human form – and so that by believing, you could have eternal life. This particular verse, John 3:16, comes right after Jesus’ conversation with Nicodemus, where Jesus explains what it takes to be born again, emphasizing God’s incredible love for all people.

Let’s look at the word ‘loved’ in John 3:16. In the original Greek, this is often the word ‘agapao’ (ἀγαπάω), which is connected to ‘agape’ love. This isn’t just any kind of love; it’s a special, unconditional, self-giving love. It’s the kind of love that chooses to do good for someone else, even if they don’t deserve it or can’t pay you back. It’s not about feelings first, but about action and commitment. When the Bible says God ‘loved’ the world, it’s telling us He made a determined choice to give His best – His Son – for us, showing a love that doesn’t quit.

You know, the Bible makes it clear: we’re saved so we can help save others. Jesus Himself told us in Matthew 5:14-16, “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light to all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”

Part of those “Good works” from that scripture are things like ‘charitable deeds.’ Think about Dorcas, the woman we read about in Acts. When she died, the widows she’d helped brought in the clothes and things she’d made for them. Her kindness really made a difference in their lives. We’re pretty sure some of those widows found the Lord because Dorcas was so good to them and their kids. You can read about it in Acts 9:36-42.

This is what God’s love looks like, isn’t it? The same love that sent Jesus to us. This is how you share the good news – you show kindness, using God’s love to help people who are lost.

I heard about one of our sisters in church who went to a tough part of town. She saw how hard people were living and decided to start a feeding program as part of her outreach. And wow, the difference she made was huge! It just shows you how much actions can speak.

If we want to reach people’s souls, we’ve got to do it with love. That means helping people who don’t have much, assisting folks who are in need, and showing them Jesus’ love through real, honest kindness.

Did you know that kindness is what saved the woman caught in adultery in John 8:10-11? When Jesus straightened up and saw no one but her, he said, “Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?” She said, “No man, Lord.” And Jesus told her, “Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.” He didn’t yell or judge her. He was kind, and that kindness changed everything for her.

When you touch people with love, you can truly reach them. It’s simple: touch them to reach them; touch their hearts so you can reach them. It’s not always about big gestures either. Just looking at someone and saying, “Hey, can I pray with you?” or asking if anything is bothering them – that’s charity evangelism too. It’s all about showing you care and love people.

So, beloved, take a walk through your neighborhood. See if you can spot anyone who seems stuck or really frustrated, and then just reach out to them. Let charity flow through you, caring for people and loving them right into God’s kingdom. Remember this truth: when you touch people with love, you can reach them.
