TREM Devotional 17 March 2026 – Rest In The Lord

Biblical Context

Psalm 37 comes from King David, a man who knew a lot about both struggle and God’s faithfulness. This psalm is a wisdom teaching, a guide for you to live by, especially when it feels like wicked people are getting ahead while you’re trying to do what’s right. David wrote this to encourage those who follow God to keep trusting Him, even when life feels unfair. He wants you to see that God always has the last word, and He takes care of His people.

Key Word Study

Let’s look at the word “Rest” from Psalm 37:7. In the original Hebrew, the word used here is dûmam (דּוּמָם). It doesn’t just mean to stop working or to sleep. It means to be silent, still, or quiet. It means to stop striving, to cease from all the anxious thoughts and worrying you might have. When the Bible tells you to “Rest in the LORD,” it’s telling you to quiet your soul, to put your trust completely in Him, and to stop trying to figure everything out on your own. It’s an active surrender, a choice to be still and let God work.

Don’t Look at the Wicked

Friend, walking in God’s covenant, getting past anxiety, and dealing with the enemy all ask for you to understand some things. The Holy Spirit tells us here not to use wicked people as examples for our lives. You might see them, and it could look like they’re way ahead of you. They might seem like they’re doing really well, succeeding in everything they touch. But what you see is just the surface. You can’t know what’s really going on inside them. If you start wanting to be like them, you’re really wanting their ways, not their true blessings. And God’s Word tells us not to go down that road.

Trust and Do Good

Instead, Scripture points us in another direction. It tells you to: “Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.” – (Psalm 37:3 KJV). God’s the only One who can truly give you the desires of your heart. Your part is pretty simple: give your ways over to Him, trust Him with everything, and let Him do His work. As the Word promises you: “Delight thyself also in the LORD: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.” – (Psalm 37:4 KJV).

Celebrate Who You Are

You need to celebrate who you are in the Lord. Celebrate what He has made you into. Celebrate your place in Him. Make sure that being happy in His Word is your main focus, because that’s where you find true rest. Be glad in His Word; let it change how you see things and fill your heart with peace.

Focus Upward

Keep your eyes on the right stuff. You’ve been raised up with Jesus Christ, and you’re seated in heavenly places right there with Him. Your job is to look up, not down; to think about heavenly things, not things on earth that just distract you.

As Scripture says: “If ye then be risen with Christ…Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.” – (Colossians 3:1‑2 KJV). True rest comes when your heart is fixed firmly on God and what He has promised you, not on the short-lived success the world offers.
